Richard has led new solar manufacturing initiatives in both India and the USA where he was President of BP Solar. Since leaving BP in 1999, he took a software consulting company through an IPO, before running his own successful consulting company advising major corporations including Origin Energy and becoming a Senior Advisor to the prestigious consulting group in Germany, Apricum, working with very large investors in the Middle East. A pioneering expert through the entire solar value-chain, he has over 25 years of leadership in the solar industry from manufacturing through product-to-market and solar farm projects, covering many technologies, market segments and continents.
Bayo joined Sinnalba in May 2016. He holds a B.Eng in mechanical engineering from the University of Ilorin Nigeria, an MSc in mechatronics systems engineering from Lancaster University and an MSc in subsea engineering from the University of Strathclyde. His previous experience includes serving as Project engineer/planner in the super structure installation team at Tecnobat Fittings and Fixtures Nigeria Ltd and Project/Structural analysis engineer at 2H Offshore Engineering Limited, involved in planning and delivering of subsea FEED projects in and around the Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea, the west coast of Africa, west of Shetlands and the Black Sea.
A qualified Metallurgist and Materials Scientist who has spent nearly 20 years in the renewable energy sector. In that time he has been able to raise over £50 million for a number of start-up companies and spin-outs from larger organisations.
He is a co-inventor on 3 published fuel cell patents and was an original member of the Advisory Board for the Manchester National Graphene Centre. Currently he is working as a Consultant in the renewable energy and advanced materials sectors.
Chris is a specialist in control, power electronics and electrical power systems, with a PhD in Electric Power and Motor Control. He has over 30 years’ practical experience as a chartered electrical and marine engineer. Chris specialises in safety-critical applications for hostile environments, efficient energy capture and transfer. He spent his early career in roles with Schlumberger, Rockwell Automation and Siemens, before becoming a senior lecturer at Newcastle University. He is a founding director of the New and Renewable Energy Centre, now the National Renewable Energy Centre. As an independent consultant he has worked on projects for electric vehicles, an airship, cruise ships and high-volume commercial renewable energy products.
A Chartered Accountant, Alistair has held board and senior financial management positions at a range of public and private companies in the manufacturing, financial services and property sectors, including serving as Finance Director of Rosti Technical Plastics in the UK (part of the Maersk Group). He has extensive experience of financial and management reporting, forecasting, design and implementation of controls and procedures, ERP, risk management and continuous improvement programmes.
Robin was head of entrepreneurial services with Ernst & Young in Scotland where he was managing partner of its Edinburgh office. After retiring from EY in 1999, he became a founding partner of Longbow Capital LLP, a venture capital fund. He was responsible for the investment management as well as finance and compliance. He was also co-founder of a £25m venture capital investment company, managed by Longbow. He served as a non-executive director of Belhaven Brewery plc and is currently non-executive director of The City Partnership.
B.Sc. Materials Science, Ph.D. in Engineering Ceramics (Sialon Ceramics)
Chris started at Morgan Crucible plc in 1983 as their non-oxide ceramic specialist, moving from R&D into manufacturing to produce products from the ceramics developed. In 1994 he moved to Carbolite Ltd. to run a design team for the manufacturing of bespoke heat treatment systems. Chris then moved to develop Ebonex for bi-polar batteries and cathodic protection before returning to Morgan Crucible to become the Technical Director for the European carbon division. He started a consultancy company in 2013 before becoming CTO of Haydale Graphene Industries and being instrumental in the IPO in 2014. Chris is now semi-retired in 2017, and undertaking consultancy jobs.
A finance professional with over 25 years’ experience of board service in UK public and private companies, Harry worked with Arthur Young/Ernst & Young, became a director within merchant bank Guinness Mahon Group and founded a successful tax consultancy & accountancy practice in Edinburgh. He served as FD and Deputy CEO of medical device manufacturer NMT Group plc and has served on several Boards in a variety of industries in executive, non-executive and consulting roles.
Ben has over 15 years’ management and senior leadership experience in the solar industry and holds a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
Through roles in Taiwán, China and in Europe, Ben has commissioned solar cell and module production lines and factories, built and optimised manufacturing organisations and team structures, and led long-term corporate strategy and enterprise development planning. In a former position as CEO of China Shandong, Ben led a tenfold solar module production capacity expansion and drove annual revenues from USD 70m to USD 300m in four years, while planning and recruiting the company’s labour force, implementing manufacturing and enterprise resource planning systems, managing organisation-wide budgets and targets, and delivering technology and yield improvements.
Bob is an Engineer with over 35 years in project management, managing projects all around the world. He has spent the last 20 years working in Asia, many of those specifically in China managing complex operations including manufacturing.
In those years he has set up and managed production and quality (ISO 9001, ISO 13485, TS 16949, ISO 14001) in factories including precision electronics (semiconductors), metals, FMCG, small and bulk chemicals, plastics, food cold chain logistics and medical devices.
Being BSc Engineering Physics degree qualified, he has a solid understanding of every engineering production sector, methods of production and equipment behind it. This includes drivers of lean methodologies.
Gareth is a technology entrepreneur with 25 years of experience in Photonics, Electronics, Semiconductors, Sensors and Medical Markets. Currently he is Chairman of LUX-TSI Limited (Accredited Electronic and Photonics Testing Company) and CEO of LUX-IEC Limited (Global consultancy for Technology Projects) and co-founder of innovative start-up companies in the UK and Malaysia. Previously Gareth was Group CTO of Enfis plc, an AIM listed LED company and Global Product Manager at IQE for Photonics products. His areas of expertise include Compound Semiconductors, Electronics, Sensors, Photonics, Lighting (including biophotonics and horticulture), Medical and emerging IoT technologies. He is a consultant for the European Commission, UK Government, United Nations and Malaysian Government and acts as expert witness in patent and technology disputes.
Dianne is responsible for overseeing the Group’s Operations and Administration. Prior to joining Sinnalba, Dianne held a number of senior positions within Higher Education and other not-for-profit organisations, including Fundraising Manager (Research & Information Management), Alumni and Student Support Manager and Trusts and Foundations Officer. She holds an MA (Hons) from The University of St Andrews.
Nigel Mason is a technology expert with 33 years of experience in PV solar energy research, development and production. He has a detailed knowledge of crystalline silicon, thin film and emerging organic PV technologies. Nigel was Chief Technologist for BP Solar (2004-8) in a career spanning 23 years with the oil major BP, working on projects in the UK, Australia, Spain, India and the USA. Nigel established BP Solar’s first cell and module production line in Spain and developed a high efficiency cell technology from lab-to-production that for a decade from 1993 was the world’s highest performing solar product, and developed and produced concentrator cells for both Fresnel lens and parabolic reflector systems. He was also responsible for BP Solar’s long term research investments in future technology. He is a Director of PV Consulting Ltd, a company he founded in 2008 specializing in technology due diligence for lenders and investors in new start-ups and factory builds. Dr Mason has a PhD in solid state chemistry, is a Chartered Chemist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). He has over 50 scientific publications and two world-wide patents. He co-authored A Strategic Research Agenda for the European PV Technology Platform (2007) and is a frequently invited speaker at PV conferences and symposia. He is currently co-chair of the Sêr Solar Advisory Board (Wales, UK), a member of the RSC Energy Sector executive committee and Chair of the UK’s PV Science, Applications and Technology (PVSAT) conferences.
David is a commercial materials scientist with over 25 years of executive, operational, technical and business management expertise in high technology market sectors in Europe, USA and Asia. He specialises in high technology manufacturing and commercialisation of advanced materials.
With chemistry and postgraduate business and management qualifications, David started his career as a crystal grower for a leading semiconductor materials research group developing materials and production technologies for III-V and II-VI materials. David built on this experience with a UK research institute, providing contract research and development solutions for private and government-funded programmes specialising in chemical vapour deposition, advanced ceramics and high temperature materials technology/applications.
Later working at senior management and executive levels for global technology companies headquartered in Europe, USA and China, David successfully developed advanced materials and technologies into successful commercial products for markets including semiconductor, aerospace and PV. He has successfully managed new technology, strategic planning, international sales and commercial activities, multi-site business operations, green-field builds, relocations and other complex projects to secure growth for investors and shareholders.
Over the past several years, David has been Director of a consulting business providing technology and business solutions mostly in China and USA.
David joined Sinnalba in August 2018 to support commercial development of current and future projects.
Peter is a semiconductor specialist with over 30 years’ experience. He runs a small company of technology consultants and project managers.
Peter has run many projects in semiconductors, displays and sensors all round the world for a wide range of customers, big and small. He also advises several national governments on their microelectronics strategies.
Maura Redmond PhD is a well published Cambridge research scientist with broad background in the physical sciences and engineering, including Physics, Chemistry, Optics, Non-Linear Optics, telecommunications, Liquid Crystals and Optoelectronics. She has 14 years experience as a research scientist at Cambridge University Centre for Advanced Photonics and Electronics (CAPE) and extensive experience in taking technology to start-up phase. Cambridge co-ordinator of European Photonics Network, Technical team leader, management team member, fundraiser and co-initiator of high profile research projects. Holding IP and interest in a Cambridge Start-up. Consultancy work includes a prolonged period for a New York legal team
Dimitrios joined Sinnalba in September 2017 following a successful career holding key managerial positions within the Oil & Gas industry and in publicly listed companies such as Ocean Rig and Shell. Dimitrios has also held important executive roles and responsibilities as Chairman and Deputy Chairman within companies in the shipping industry helping them to raise equity and manage CAPEX. He has successfully co-founded two NGOs focused on anti-poverty and governance in developing economies to which he provided corporate governance and raised equity. He has held non- executive roles in equity holding groups in the medical technology sector. He is a highly regarded project and contract management professional with over 17 years of experience. Throughout his career Dimitrios has worked in Russia, Brazil, Norway, S. Korea, Middle East and West Africa. He was appointed to Sinnalba’s board of directors in March 2019.
Donna is an experienced administrator with previous roles in corporate governance and administration within both the public and private sectors, ranging from start-up and publicly listed companies to the higher education sector. Donna supports both the Company Secretary and the Chairman in the management of the corporate secretarial function to ensure best practice compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Simon has over 25 years’ experience developing leading-edge high-technology organisations in the semiconductor and solar industries. He is a technical expert in all aspects of thin film processing, for a wide range of applications, and is a specialist in process, equipment, systems, and device engineering. Simon’s particular interest is in developing new and innovative technologies and taking them to market.
Fiona joined Sinnalba in August as a Project Administrator, previously working in Trial Management Support for Edinburgh Clinical Trials Unit. Fiona began her career in corporate events, organising UK and international award ceremonies, roadshows and team building retreats. She moved to a Profession Conference Management Agency in Glasgow managing large scale international scientific and medical conferences. Prior to moving to Edinburgh to go back to University in 2015 Fiona managed a conference venue in Bristol catering to corporate meetings, training course, weddings and parties.
Guillermo is an engineer with over 20 years of solar PV manufacturing experience. He is an expert in cell and module manufacturing practices, specialising in quality, lean manufacturing and technical due diligence of manufacturing operations, as well as project management.
He worked in several management roles at BP Solar’s manufacturing facilities in Spain and in other regions, involving cell and module design, factory operations and manufacturing facilities projects (cells and modules). Guillermo undertook BP Solar’s module plant expansions, automation of manual facilities and cell and modules plants design, commissioning and ramp-up as Project Manager. Other positions held included General Manager at Manz Automation Spain and Editor in Chief of Photon Spanish edition. As an independent consultant, and then as Technical Director at CEA (a PV quality services provider in Asia), he has provided due diligence and improvement services at several production facilities internationally, including Tier 1 and 2 Chinese solar manufacturers and covering areas such automation, quality, supply chain management and technology due diligence. Guillermo holds an MBA from Politécnica University Madrid and a degree in Geological Engineering from Complutense University of Madrid.
Henry Wang joined Sinnalba in May 2018 as Assistant Project Manager. He has over 4 years’ experience at both electrical industry and solar consultancy. Mr. Wang has started his professional career at the 2400MW Huadian Xiangyang power plant as full time senior technical engineer. Before joining Sinnalba, Mr Wang served as a quality and project engineer for Clean Energy Associates, which is a third party solar consultancy. He has achieved nearly 2GW of module inspection since 2014. Also, he has been involved in various projects with TIER1 manufacturers across the world such as Jinko Malaysia, Pekindas Schmid Turkey and Trina Solar, Canadian Solar, Longi, JA solar in China. His involvement has been also instrumental in the Inverter Project with Temic & ABB Houston in USA. Mr Wang is a highly recognized professional with exceptional communication and great customer service skills. Mr. Wang completed his studies in Electrical Power Systems at Wuhan Electricity Technology College in 2012 . In 2014 he graduated from Sheffield University, UK with a BSc in Science and Technology . In 2016, he graduated from Heriot – Watt university in Edinburgh , UK with an MSc in Renewable Energy.
Ivett joined Sinnalba in 2017 as a senior member of the finance department. She ensures smooth operation of all finance matters working closely with the Director of Finance, focusing on the management accounts and the financial procedures of the company. She is an ACCA Qualified Accountant and holds a diploma in accounting from Budapest Business School College of Finance and Accountancy, specialized in taxation.
Jasmin brings over 10 years of experience in sales, administration and governance within the financial sector working with senior management, sales teams and product management. Jasmin started her career in London working with one of the top pension and investments providers, here she took on a business management role and worked closely with their investors in developing relations, administrative support and providing opportunities on growth. Jasmin went on to develop her career in administration, working with one of the largest international banks and a top asset management firm in Edinburgh. Jasmin has a wealth of skills and knowledge that she brings to Sinnalba where she will be working closely with the CEO and the projects team to help achieve deliverables and quality assurance on our projects.
Joan joined Sinnalba in 2014. She is responsible for Policy & Regulation research and advice in relation to the Chinese market as well as the review of all Chinese legal documentation and translations. Her duties also include advising on international procurement management, business negotiation and due diligence. Prior to this, Joan managed international procurement in other sectors and gained extensive experience in business and trade operations as a business developer and a sales manager. Joan has also worked as a Commercial Lawyer in China gaining wide experience in legal practice. She holds a lawyer certificate of P. R. China, LLM in International Commercial Law and Master’s degree in Oil and gas Law from the University of Aberdeen, and is a member of CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply).
Katie is a Chartered Accountant with a specialism in business valuation and financial modelling. Katie has been working in the private sector for the last four and a half years in commercial and corporate development roles, and prior to this was a manager in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ valuation practise. The previous corporate roles that Katie has held have also involved an element of investor relations; firstly with a focus to the syndicated debt markets, and laterally in a UK listed environment.
Lisa joined Sinnalba in May 2018 as the Office Manager. She began her career in Switzerland working in the education sector before moving to Australia. Lisa gained a vast range of experience working for a medical recruitment company covering regulatory, migration, recruitment and administration. Lisa brings with her an array of international knowledge and experience to add to her responsibilities at Sinnalba in the day-to-day running of the office, health & safety, first aid and management of other office facilities.
Ming has gained more than 20 years of senior operations management experience in solar and semiconductor industries. In PV (solar) industry, he has worked for Siemens Solar, Sanyo Solar, and Applied Solar with various technical and management positions. Prior to joining Sinnalba, he was the COO at ET Solutions in Munich Germany, an EPC turn key provider serving solar farm sector in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Before that, he was the CTO at Applied Materials in Switzerland. Besides the extensive experience in solar industry, he has also owned senior management experience in MEMS and Thin Film sectors. Ming has earned a master’s degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering from the University of Iowa, and an MBA from the University of La Verne.
Murray joined Sinnalba in 2015. Murray manages Sinnalba’s relationships with its external legal advisers, particularly with regard to supplier and customer contracts and supports Sinnalba’s project management team through project research, planning and implementation. He had previously gained experience working in a variety of roles and sectors, predominantly in the media. Murray graduated with an LLB (Hons) from Edinburgh Napier University (first class), and was class medal and law prize winner in 2014.
Paul brings over 20 years of experience in IT to the Sinnalba team. Most recently managing IT operations for the UK’s largest Independent waste management organisation. Throughout his career Paul has held various senior level positions within the public and private sectors. He holds an array of industry standard certifications including MCSA, MCITP & multiple MCTS. Paul will be building and maintaining the Groups IT infrastructure and managing data security.
